OYSTER BOX HOSTS NEXT GOURMET FOOD & WINE DINNER FOR CHARITY

The OYSTER BOX is well known for its amazing food and its stunning location.Food 4 Thought KZN has decided to hold it’s next fundraising Gourmet Food & Wine Dinner in The Pearl Room at The Oyster Box on Monday 9 September 2013.

What is Food 4 Thought KZN and how does it work?

The founding restaurant members are: Fordoun, Hartford House; Granny Mouse (Midlands); 9th Avenue Bistro; Ciao Bella; Café 1999; Market(Berea); Kung Thai (Durban North) and The Grill Room at The Oyster Box.
Each participating restaurant provides their customers with the opportunity to support the project by adding a 1% charge to the total bill. The charge is added automatically by the restaurant’s POS system after the total and before the tip. The project gives the customer a discrete ‘opt-out’ of paying the 1%.
In addition, staff of the participating restaurants, are encouraged to gain a full understanding about Umthombo, in order to truly appreciate the value of project and the impact it is making on the lives of young people.

AND THIS LEADS ON TO UMTHOMBO ???

Umthombo fuses high-intensity engagement programmes such as surfing, football, art and drama, with psychosocial support, to help children overcome the traumas associated with having lived on the street. It has a centre in Point, Durban called Safespace.
“Umthombo has developed successful strategies around the urban phenomenon of street-children,” says Tom Hewitt MBE, founder of Umthombo. “The proceeds raised from ‘Food 4 Thought’, will enable us to to build on this success and provide hope for more children.

THE EVENT :

The five-course paired menu at R650 per person, including wine, has been exclusively created by The Oyster Box’s Executive Chef, Kevin Joseph. For starters, a Chilled Oyster and Passion Fruit Jelly with Lavender shards of sugar, will be accompanied by a Kleine Zalze Barrel Fermented Chenin Blanc; a delicious second course of Foie Gras Parfait with Basil Gelatin, Quail-scented Jelly and Langoustine Cream, is matched with a Sumaridge Pinot Noir.

Paired with a Rupert and Rothschild Classique, the main course of Loin of Venison, Oxtail and Herb Crust, Candied Beetroot and Cauliflower Puree, is the prelude to the exquisite Croquembouche and Brule Tower, Cognac Ice Cream and Candy Floss dessert. Live music will be provided by talented Durban musician, Wallace Nock.

Food 4 Thought KZN is a community of top restaurants and ‘good food’ lovers. Through the contributions of diners, who have the option to add 1% to their bills when dining in participating restaurants, the work of Umthombo can be carried out. Thanks to the generous contributions of the KZN dining public, without whom the initiative would not exist, Umthombo receives vital and sustainable monthly support towards its work.
