Winter is my favourite season. I love this season as it brings images of fireplaces, hot chocolate and snow.
I dont like extreme heat so hence Winter is for me.Since experiencing a proper change of seasons and Winter I fell more in love with this season. I love the fact that you can actually dress up, full make up, hair done and not worry about the heat damaging your hardwork.
Winter clothing is so playful and fab colours all the deep rich tones. Boots, scarves, hats and coats ooh such choices.
Winter brings yummy food treats in every home from cakes, pies, stews, spicy crab curry, samoosas and lots of warm drinks. Generally one tends to put on a little more weight during these months. We tend to snack more and look for comfort food.
My favourite winter moments where in London waking up to snowflakes falling and the sky so light. Walking to work as there were no buses running and then seeing the paw prints of foxes and birds in the snow totally breathtaking. I recall fondly standing at the window with a dear friend Travis watching snowflakes fall, just silence between us while sipping piping hot cups of tea to warm us. Such a blissful moment taking in the beauty around us. Later on that day, I had my first snow fight with my friends it was awesome, we instantly became kids running around throwing snowballs at each other and making snow angels.
For me winter also has a romantic notion of cuddling by the fireplace, in a log cabin sipping Mulled wine. Winter is associated in my mind with Christmas.
I love Winter no doubt about that……. Mother Nature, I waited with bated breath to welcome Winter with open arms and recall all my wonderful memories…..
When I was 5, I recieved my Frog teddy from dad. I fell in love with this teddy and soon he became my companion every night to the land of nod. Over the years Frog had to undergo some reconstructive surgery from mum as his stuffing was coming out but once fixed he was all brand new.
My brother often teased me, of my love affair with Frog. He said I thought that one morning, I would wake up and find my Frog has changed into Prince Charming. We all laughed at his theory but maybe in my childhood mine, I believed this fairytale.
Frogs are often depicted as ugly but with magical powers in many different cultures and myths. In European folklore frogs are depicted as sinister and associated with witches and potions.
So 30 years later, Frog is still alive, I no longer have him as my sleep companion and I am still single awaiting my Prince Charming. Hopefully the spell will be broken and I will meet him soon……
The last week has been very hectic in so many ways that, I havent been able to blog. I need to find some routine to my blogging.
Last Monday was such a sad day as we had to say goodbye to our beloved family dog.We had Sasha for ten years so losing her was very emotional for us. Gran is still not to well and been in and out of the Doctors weekly. Tuesday I got back to work after the Easter break so getting back to routines are very hard.
And then before I knew it, it was Friday and a week before my birthday.
Dear readers, I promise to blog a little more.I have a ton of blog ideas so watch this space.
Today was such a heartbreaking day.We said goodbye to our beloved Doberman, Sasha. We got Sasha as a pup over ten years ago. She truly was apart of our family. During my time in London, mum would sign off cards saying love from all of them including Sasha.
Sasha was super clever and very protective of our home and family, her bark was defo worst than her bite. She was very spoilt by all of us at home but was my mother’s baby girl.
She was diagnosed with cancer a few weeks ago and her health went downhill very fast.Sasha reminded us all of my dad before he died from cancer last year, the not eating, silence and drastically losing weight. We had to take the difficult decision to have Sasha put down today.I couldnt bear to go outside and say goodbye. It wa like losing my dad all over again. Sasha was apart of our family and she will be missed more than words can say.I wrie this blog with tears in my eyes.Losing a pet is very emotional and stressful.
We as a family have decided to donate all Sasha’s unopened bags of dog food and tins to the SPCA in her memory.
Sasha, you were the best we all love and miss you so much already. You will be with Papa soon, be good dont sip his tea while he reads his newspaper.
Life is to short and precious to waste. When I came across this quote online, I fell in love with these words. Its only recently have I discovered that these words belong to the famous Maya Angelou.I have been pretty blessed in my life to have experienced some very breathtaking moments.
Heres wishing, hoping and praying that your life is filled with moments that leave you breathless.

Sometimes its the little things tha make our heart happy. I often use my blogging as a platform to vent. Thanks M 🙂
Another one of my addictions is watching movies and series. I have 2 HDs full but my problem however is getting time to watch. They say good moves are generally ones who leave you feeling good, ones you watch over and over and ones you can quote lines from.

Ever since I watched this movie over ten years ago, I have fallen in love with this word and this movie.Serendipity means a happy accident or a pleasant surprise. In 2004 it was voted into the top ten most difficult words to translate.I am a firm believer in fate and destiny, I guess thats why I love this word.Serendipity has a romantic notion attached to it which the soppy romantic within me loves.
Serendipity the movie was realised in 2001 and stars John Cusack and the lovely Kate Beckinsale and is a romantic comedy. The movie is set in New York city during the Christmas holiday. In a twist of fate the couple meet in a busy department store before going to Serendipity 3 the coffee shop. Its on my Bucket List to visit New York and have a hot chocolate in this coffee shop since watching this movie. In the movie a $5 dollar note and a book called Love in the time of Cholera play a part in this couples destiny.(the crazy book addict within me has bought the book.).The soundtrack is pretty awesome and features Van Morrison, Annie Lennox, David Gray and John Mayer.
So without giving more away go and watch this movie its great makes you have faith in Serendipity.
Ps whats your favourite movie?
Its very surprising to me that, I am now in the field of education for 13years. We sometimes need to reflect on our past journey to see how far we have really come.
My first job was at a boarding school in the Ixopo area.I had never lived away from home so a newbie out of university and a city girl this was a big change. I recall looking for cellphone reception as we drove to Ixopo, we have never been to this place so it was a defo a family roadtrip. As we got more and more inland on windy roads, I began getting a little nervous.
Eventually we arrived at the school, which immediately reminded me of an old English boarding schools much like the ones I read about. The setting and surroundings were breathtaking the rolling green fields described in Alan Paton’s book Cry the beloved country. Later I learnt that Alan Paton was actually the Headmaster of the school at some point how amazing.
It was a very small high school with only 500 boys and girls and only 25 staff. All staff lived on the premises ane were mostly husbands and wives. The girls hostel in which my flat was in was run by 2 very English matrons very typical to the books we all have read growing up. The garden even had English roses and hedges.
The school was steeped in tradition and sport. All staff were required to coach teams and be actively involved in extra curricular activities. As its such a small town there was not much to do so guess been involved in school life was not too bad. The town had 1 main street with roughly about 8 shops. Cabin fever especially for a city girl.I did things I never did before like coach a swimming team, start a supper theatre and host the first ever cultural day at the school.
Within that year, I applied for a job in the UK and was successful. Th headmaster was not happy about losing a young staff member. So in the same year that I started I left to start the new adventure in my life in London.
I did enjoy my first year of teaching, made some amazing friends, got to coach sports and got to know some fab kids who are all now grown up but still keep in touch. Its amazing how far and wide my journey has taken me. The road ahead now seems more amazing and I look forward to new adventures that my career path leads me too.
