Coming from a Hindu background has always meant that my family and I dont eat meat or eggs on several days within the week.My family follow a vegetarian diet on a Monday and a Thursday for religious reasons.
So when the concept of Meat Free Mondays was introduced I was excited as this would mean more of my friends would also not be eating meat on this day.So I thought I would explore this topic a little further and found out the following :
*was founded in 2003
*International campaign to encourage people to eat healthy and to save the planet.
*we can slow down climate change by reducing our meat consumption.
*fewer animal factory farms will be around as there will be less demand for meat and chicken.
*decreasing meat consumption helps reducing our chances of getting heart disease, cancer , obesity and diabetes.
Several famous people both living have dead have been vegetarians , it used to be laughed at as a “poor man’s diet” or a hippy lifestyle, but now is very popular. There are tons of amazing recipes from all over the world so its just boiled veg or a veg soup for dinner. Be creative, ask your Hindu friends, whatever you do just participate in Meat Free Mondays.
There is a huge variety of meat alternate products on the market, with my most favourite range been the Fry Family food range.Eating vegetables on a Monday can have so many benefits for you so go try it and your body and environment will thank you.

Both my parents have a great passion for travelling. This amazing passion was passed onto me and I totally love this bug. As a child my dad made it a point of every single school holiday that we went on a family holiday.
We explored our beautiful SA, from the amazing mountains of the Berg to the garden route to Cape Town we travelled taking in the amazing sights and sounds of our beautiful land. I must thank my parents for giving my brother and I very interesting and exciting childhood with neve a dull moment.
Whenever I finished high school I was very keen to take a Gap Year and go travelling like a gypsy. However my parents insisted I finish my degree before I start my exploring. I did this, worked for a year in SA before leaving to my beloved London.
My journey to London was the start of my incredible love affair and addiction to travelling. In the UK teachers get a few more holidays which was perfect for me. Each holiday, I made sure I visited a different country and explored Great Britain. I will always recall my first holiday as an adult and that was to Paris and Eurodisney. The journey included a coach journey, a ferry crossing and a train journey.
As soon as each holiday was over, I couldnt wait to plan, research and book the next. The thrill of getting a new stamp in my passport was great. Other holidays included Jamaica, Algiers, Tunisia, Turkey, Barcelona, Madrid, Belfast, Austria, Slovakia, Venice, Switzerland, Belgium are just some of the mindblowing places I visited.
Each country provided a rich cultural background, amazing buildings, yummy foods and so much more. A million memories that will definitely last a lifetime.
The travel bug did bite me at a young age…..but I love this addiction of mine that has made me like a gypsy…..
All those who know me know I am obsessed with technology in all forms and on all platforms. From Twitter to Facebook to BBM….
So on Friday I got to work only to find my Blackberry frozen , I been a techno gadgety girl decided to fix it but alas the phone would not come on at all. Such horror for me cut off from the world..Luckily for me I had my Samsung Tablet on me as I was stuck at work with everyone gone and no way of getting in touch with my brother .Then the genius in me decided to email him and my friend M who rescued me by calling my mum.
Even my 2 fully charged batteries didnt help me this time. So since Friday I have been with a phone and connection to my Techno world. Went into the Service provider yesterday only to find out that my phone needed a software upgrade but alas the guy who normally does it was away till Monday. But while there I found out valuable info on BB BIS and how it would affect me as well as that I am due for an upgrade next month yipeee.
I must admit I feel very out of the loop not constantly been in the loop but its a kind of Techno detox. Last night I was able to catch up watching several series and even got to watch a documentary which was fab.So maybe I needed this Detox….. However mum has given me an old Nokia phone with very limiting features just sms and calling actually feels strange and weird having this phone.
Hopefully tomorow I will have my phone and be in the loop again… To all my fellow bloggers and tweeting community I have missed you guys.. Hope you missed me too…..
I always find when getting to know a guy one gets a little stuck when asking questions . So I more than often use the line ” So tell me 5 random things about you ” This really works as it gets the conversation going. This is my list of 5 feel free to comment , ask more or add your own to this blog….
1) I have a tattoo.
2) I am in love with all things Vanilla from perfume to tea to creams to lipgloss.
3) I love Winnie the pooh.
4) I have a “mild” obsession with all things British ever since I lived there.
5) I am currently working on my Masters Degree in Food and Nutrition.
Hope this has given you a little peek into who the Spicegoddess is. Look out next week for my next list of 5… 5 ways to say goodbye Adios, Tchau, Slan,Allah Hafiz and Sees….
As a child number 5 was my most favourite number in the world. Whenever I was asked how many do I want it was always 5. As a much loved and spoilt toddler I was always indulged with 5 of whatever my heart wanted.I recall my aunt once saying that I might have 5 husbands and as a child I replied yes I will.
Lol 5 husbands this makes me cringe 😦 So I decided to explore the meaning of the number 5 and start a weekly list of 5 in my blog.
So in my research of 5 I found that its a very ancient number that was associated with various cultures, religions around the world. Some of these facts were really interesting :
* Muslims pray 5 times a day
* The pentagram has 5 sides to it
* The Olympic Games has 5 interlocked rings each symbolising the 5 continents of the world
* In Formula 1 the number 5 car traditionally belonged to the Williams team until the end of season in 1995
* No. 5 is the iconic fragrance by Coco Channel
* Almost all reptiles and mammals have 5 toes or fingers on their extremities
* In the Jewish religion The Torah contains 5 books
* According to Aristotle the universe is made up of 5 elements water, earth, ether , fire and air
* 5 is the number of completed numbered piano concertos by Beethoven
* Famous 5 is a famous children’s book series written by British author Enid Blyton
* MI5 is the informal term for British Security Service
* iPhone 5 is the latest generation of Apple iPhone
* 5 is the most common number of gears in a manual car
The interesting facts on my favourite 5 is endless, who knew a simple childhood fetish with 5 would have so much meaning. So in keeping with the theme of 5 I will say goodbye in 5 languages Ciao, Au revoir, Totsiens, Adeus, and Yasou…….
The world is made up of all sorts of people . In our journey of life we meet some really amazing people who inspire us ,care for us and most of all appreciate us.
And then we meet some monsters , people who are fake , self absorbed and just want to hurt us. These people use us emotionally , drain us and then toss us to the kerb like a used can after fulfilling their needs at that point in time. Its awful that these people have no heart and think nothing of hurting others. I have had my experience with many of these monsters who started off as Ordinary normal people but then mutate once we let our guard down and let them into our inner circle. They then show their true self once we let them in and this is very scary. I am so glad to have gotten rid off several of these monsters from my life .They drained me emotionally drained and sucked away all my positive energy. One monster I met in London really was one of note she always put me down, passed negative comments and used me luckily I escaped from her clutches and kinda disappeared into almost thin air where she could not get hold of me. She has befriended me of Facebook and tries to fish me for information on my life .But I have become wiser and I aint afraid of this monster no more , I offer very little information and often give her the silent treatment. Monsters however dont come in the female form only but male as well. The male ones are very damaged , looking to hurt and use others then turn their backs and walk away without turning back on the damage and destruction they have left behind. I had the pleasure of meeting one male monster last year and boy was he a work of art damaged and fake to the core. I was saved from his clutches and refuse to let him emotionally drain me again.
I firmly believe that we meet these monsters on our life journey to teach us lessons. Sometimes we feel so betrayed and hurt by these monsters that we cant see the true reason they are set on our journey.Life has taught me to be positive , be happy and rid these monsters from my life . I cant fix all these monsters with their damaged pasts cause some people are not meant to be fixed ……So instead I thank them for their life lessons and appreciate the amazings friends I have all over the world, friends who love, care ,inspire and support me .I AINT AFRAID OF NO MONSTER (sung in the Ghostbusters theme song lol)
So in the words of John Legend…..We just Ordinary People……we dont know which way to go …..
I feel it in my fingers , I feel it in my toes…..its the month of Love and all i see are hearts, red, pinks, teddy bears….
Every year this day love dawns upon us with the onslaught of the same romantic songs and movies. For all us singletons its a day we tend to dismiss in our calendars.I personally have never had a bf for love day and only seem to meet them later on in the year.
In London a group of my friends decided to celebrate this Love day in style and in keeping with the spirit of this day. We came up with the idea of a Secret Valentine where we each would pick a name from the hat and buy that person a Valentines gift. Our group was made up of guys and girls which was a great mix of all sorts.
Us singletons met for pre dinner cocktails and gift exchanging which was a barrel of laughs . Some of the gifts were very creative, naughty , cheesy and nice.We all were dressed up in our red and black finery that evening and went to our pre booked romantic Valentines dinner with friends . The evening was a great way to spend this day that is much dreaded by many with friends who make you laugh and care for you.
Yes I am a singleton very much like Bridget Jones and yes I am still a soppy romantic waiting for Mr Darcy….. who knows what this Love Day will bring
